Musée du scoutisme
This museum traces Scouting since its creation in 1907 by Mr. Baden-Powell founder of the movement. Created in 1994, this museum offers on 60m2 three rooms of scouting memories through items, medals, flags, posters and souvenir photos. Two mannequins wear the traditional uniform of a girl- and a boy scout.
These rooms are dedicated to three local figures: Father Raoul Hugues founder of Scouting in Digne in 1920, Jean Brouchon a chief scout who died for France on August 15, 1944, and Yves Raby chief of the French scout troops who died of an accident during Scout activity in the 50s.
The main purpose of the association is to revive ties of friendship between the generations. Bridge between the past and the future, its target is to help strengthen spirit of brotherhood without which scouting would not exist.
National Scouting celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2007 and the "Jamboree" brought together 500 million young people worldwide. The Scout flame, leaving from Kenya where Lord S.Baden Powell is buried, via Mélan passed through Sisteron on Thursday, July 12 to be extinguished in England.
