Presentation

The Sisteron-Vaumeilh Airfield (previously named Sisteron-Thèze) is a restricted access public airfield. It is located 10 km North of Sisteron in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence (04), altitude 542meters. It possesses one 950mx80m, North-South oriented unpaved strip (QFU 354° and 174°). The airfield is situated on a large plateau which is bordered to the West by the Durance river, and to North, East and South by the Southern French Alps.

For over 50 years, “Sisteron Soaring” has always been and remains currently the essential aeronautic activity on the airfield. Airfield soaring activity is intense between March and October.

Glider launching modes are : towing, winching and self-launch. The Sisteron-Vaumeilh Airfield is acknowledged worldwide for its installations, its aerological conditions, its geographic situation and its dedication to soaring.
Glider pilots from France and all over the world gather on this restricted-category airfield knowing that their activities will not have to integrate with general aviation traffic.
The cosmopolitan ambience maintained on the airfield has resulted in its 2014 ranking as number 1 French airfield for welcoming international mountain soaring pilots by the French Fédération de Vol à Voile.
